Optometric vision therapy is utilized to provide patients with the opportunity to develop the necessary visual abilities for achievement in academics, sports and general movement activities. Vision therapy at Powers Eye Care involves weekly one hour vision therapy sessions that are performed on a direct one-on-one therapist-patient basis. Each week additional home activities are prescribed. Home therapy is very important. Studies have shown that the success of therapy is highly dependant upon how compliant a patient is in doing their home therapy. Home activities are kept at a slightly lower level than in-office therapy to maintain therapeutic continuity and the development of visual skills. Progress evaluations will be performed by Dr. Powers every 8-10 weeks to evaluate visual skills and symptoms. Our vision therapy programs are individualized to the specific needs of each patient and the length of each program can vary because of this. Just like physical or occupational therapy, vision therapy takes time. Patience, compliance, and consistency are needed to develop the visual skills properly and efficiently.
